When a new major version of SQL Sentry is released, the version number for the license is often incremented as well. When the official contact for the license at your company logs on to the Customer Portal to download the new version of SQL Sentry, they will be asked to upgrade the license version. This is not difficult as it simply requires choosing which licenses to upgrade and clicking Update. There is generally no reason not to upgrade the license version since the new license will still be compatible with the older SQL Sentry version in the event that the upgrade must be postponed or aborted.
Once the license is upgraded and the new setup package downloaded, the upgrade process is very similar to the initial install procedure. All user preferences and configuration settings will be maintained, and in most cases you will not need to enter the public/private key encryption password. A possible exception to this is if you are installing the monitoring service using a different security account than the previous installation.
The first time you run the client application after the upgrade you will be required to enter the upgraded license data if it is required, so be sure that you have that on hand.
